Made in collaboration with Wesley Chau, Shift is an interactive lamp that displays two modes of lighting — ambient and spotlight. When someone is sitting at a desk under the light, it lowers a brass reflector to confine the light to the working area. The tones of the brass change the temperature of the light, making it warmer and better for working under for long periods of time. When no one is sitting at the desk, the brass reflector raises and an frosted diffuser is lowered, creating a soft room-illuminating light.

The current version uses an ultra-sonic range finder to detect whether the user is sitting at the desk or walking around the room. When the user sits or stands, the phase change begins.
